Your choice from our six education progarmmes will be tailored to meet the required level of curriculum for your visiting school group.  Each programme has curriculum links to Maths, Science, Technology and Social Studies.


Birds, Birds, Birds

Unravel forest food-webs, discover avian adaptations and the fate of flight. Meet endangered birds while examining ecological processes and why some species are extinct.
Actions include bird surveys and how to attract birds to your place.


Orokonui Odyssey

Take a journey through time to meet the Taoka we have brought home. Explore the technology, science and processes involved in building a future for our past.
Actions include participating in animal tracking, monitoring and habitat restoration.


Plants in Ecosystems

See it, hear it, smell it, feel it, taste it. Learn how to listen to the trees, take a walk on the wild side and discover how evolution created he unique diversity of life in Te Wai Pounamu (the South Island of New Zealand).
Actions include assessing forest vitality or contributing to habitat restoration.


Scales and Slime through time

Who licks their eyeballs? Who has a third eye? Do lizards lay eggs? Where did all the frogs go? Discover how isolation evolves extraordinary reptile and amphibian life.
Actions include planning lizard habitats.


Stream Consciousness

Meet the myriad of freshwater native creatures that hide in NZ streams. Compare and contrast the biological and physical features of a stream in dense forest and farmland while observing human impacts. Action focused on riparian restoration.


People, Place, Purpose

Discover how people have used the Orokonui Valley over time. Experience how land use in the past influences life today and explore human dependence on our natural world.
Action is contributing collectively to a community challenge.


Journeys into our Forest of Knowledge are half day (2 hours) or full day (4 hours). Schools may stay longer by arrangement.
All students are just $5 for full or half day, no charge for teachers and supervising adults.
