Orokonui offers tours for individuals and small groups as well as private tours for larger groups (10 people or more).

The Orokonui Express
A scenic excursion to a nature haven.


Catch the seasider train for a half day adventure from Dunedin Railway Station to Waitati, taking in spectacular views of the Pacific Coast.

From Waitati you will be transferred to explore Orokonui Ecosanctuary on a guided forest walk, where you may encounter New Zealand’s rarest treasures. You will then be transported on a scenic and informative trip to Port Chalmers, along the picturesque Otago Harbour and returned to Dunedin City.

Tour Instructions: Please ensure you arrive 15 minutes before the start time of your tour. Once the tour has left the Visitor Centre you will be unable to join the group. A reasonable level of fitness is required for our 90-minute tour. This is an outdoor walking tour, please ensure that you have comfortable walking shoes and that you are dressed suitably for the weather conditions.
