About

Orokonui Ecosanctuary is a project of the Otago Natural History Trust (ONHT), a registered charitable trust under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957. The Board of Trustees oversees policy and planning for the Ecosanctuary. Trustees are elected by the membership at an Annual General Meeting. Advisors to the Trust may be appointed by the Board of Trustees.

The commercial operation of the Ecosanctuary is the responsibility of Orokonui Ecosanctuary Ltd, a charitable company under the Charities Act 2005 wholly owned by the ONHT. Directors of Orokonui Ecosanctuary Ltd are appointed by the ONHTrust.

The ONHT has 1400 members, including individual, family, community group and corporate groups.

We operate in partnership with the Department of Conservation, the University of Otago, the Otago Museum, NHNZ and Kati Huirapa Runaka ki Puketeraki.
