About

Orokonui Ecosanctuary is a project of the Otago Natural History Trust, a registered charitable trust under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957. The Board of Trustees oversees policy and planning for the Ecosanctuary. Trustees are elected by the membership at an Annual General Meeting. Advisors to the Trust may be appointed by the Board of Trustees.

The commercial operation of the Ecosanctuary is the responsibility of Orokonui Ecosanctuary Ltd, a charitable company under the Charities Act 2005 wholly owned by the Otago Natural History Trust. Directors of Orokonui Ecosanctuary Ltd are appointed by the Otago Natural History Trust.

The Otago Natural History Trust has 1500 members, of whom 180 are registered volunteers donating time and effort to the management of the Ecosanctuary.

We operate in partnership with the Department of Conservation, the University of Otago, the Otago Museum, NHNZ and Kati Huirapa Runaka ki Puketeraki.

Our many major sponsors include the Southern Trust, NZ Lottery Grants Board, Community Trust of Otago and Marie and Graeme Bennett.
